With the frog bard entering Captain Mode, we may see footage of some games featuring the hero in future tournaments.
Just a month after release, new Strength hero Largo has officially entered Captains Mode following Dota 2’s Patch 7.40c. The update also introduces buffs to two of his abilities, Frog Stomp and Amphibian Rhapsody, making him a bit more viable in the current meta.
Largo made his Captain Mode debut much sooner than heroes like Ringmaster and Kez, with Ringmaster needing six months of balancing before being available and Kez taking almost a full year.
Throughout his existence as a hero, Largo has received negative feedback from the community, with many players criticizing his weak laning abilities and unsatisfactory damage output. Even Team Spirit offlaner Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov didn’t hold back, bluntly describing Largo as a “fucking hero with zero damage.”
Will Largo be an important part of a professional team’s design and strategy this year? To find out, let’s take a closer look at the hero’s performance and game statistics so far.

According to the latest data on Dotabuff, Largo is at the bottom level of the Dota 2 meta, having Overall win rate 48.85%. as of January 2026. His overall take rate is 1.83%, which is quite low for a relatively new hero.
Apparently, Largo performed slightly better in the position 4 role. So far, the frog hero has an average win rate of 49.95% as Soft Support, with a pick rate of 3.85%. He also has a slightly stronger presence in the offlane compared to Safe Lane, which suggests teams may prefer him in a more flexible or roaming role.
Is Largo one of the worst supports in Dota 2?

At the time of writing this article, Largo’s performance in the match appears to be disappointing based on the current statistics on Dotabuff. Here are the most common reasons why these heroes are struggling right now:
- Not a beginner-friendly hero. It takes excellent micromanagement to maximize Largo’s ultimates, as you have to click the right buffs at the right times while keeping Largo in a safe position, activating item effects, and activating her ultimates effectively.
- Bad at the laning stage. As a melee hero, Largo is not a good lane attacker in the early game unless paired with strong and durable Offlane heroes like Centaur and Underlord.
- His ultimate greatly limits his participation in team fights. Amphibian Rhapsody disarms Largo, limiting the impact of teamfights to only providing buffs and healing for teammates. If played as a core hero, this will force the other cores to work harder to provide greater damage and potentially absorb more enemy attacks.
- Requires gold to be more efficient. Largo becomes much more threatening once he gets items like Aghanim’s Shard, which unlocks Encore. This ability allows him to automatically spread buffs from his skills to himself and his allies.
On the other hand, Largo can still be a worthy hero if played correctly and in a coordinated team. By getting important items like the Holy Locket, Lotus Orb, Aghanim’s Shard, and Aghanim’s Scepter, he can become a ‘go-to guy’, providing major healing to his team during the fight.
Good item build for Largo
Ideally, an example of an end-game build for Largo would be the following items:
- Guard Greaves – For mobility and healing/regeneration aura which is better.
- Sacred Pendant – Strengthens Largo’s healing abilities.
- Guardian of Shiva – Increases the effect of Croak of Genius, slows enemies, and provides armor to Largo.
- Lotus Ball – Increases Largo’s defensive ability on the front line, and increases mana regeneration.
- Gleipnir – Gives Largo another reliable disable.
- Aghanim’s Scepter – Allows Largo to play two of his abilities while his ulti is active.
- Aghanim Shards – Reunlock.
Although Largo doesn’t have strong offensive skills, his ability to provide buffs to teammates makes him very versatile when it comes to itemization. You can equip it with a variety of auras and support items, customizing the build depending on the situation.
If the enemy team deals a lot of magic damage, Pipe is the right choice. If your team is short on physical damage, you can swap Shiva’s Guard for Crimson. So far, the options are nearly limitless, as long as you understand which items are required for each scenario.
On the professional scene, teams may already be learning Largo in Captain Mode, but we may only see him in low-stakes matches, such as the group stage. Whether he makes the jump to high-level competitive play will depend on how effective he proves in these early games.
